PULLMAN — Washington State coach Mike Leach, who was hired in November, announced the rest of the coaching staff Friday.
"This group of assistant coaches is hardworking and one that I have a high level of comfort with," said Leach, who has worked with several of the coaches before.
The coaches, with the college where they last worked in parentheses, are: Mike Breske (defensive coordinator, Montana); Dave Emerick (chief of staff, Arizona); Jeff Choate (linebackers, Boise State); Jim Mastro (running backs, UCLA); Clay McGuire (offensive line, East Carolina); Eric Morris (inside receivers, Houston); Eric Russell (assistant head coach and special teams, Tennessee); ex-NFL player Joe Salave'a (defensive line, Arizona); Dennis Simmons (outside receivers, East Carolina); Paul Volero (outside linebackers, Central Michigan); and Antonio Huffman (director of football operations, East Carolina).
Paterno is hospitalized
Former Penn State coach Joe Paterno was admitted to a hospital for observation because of minor complications from cancer treatments, his family said.
In a statement, the family said Paterno, 85, continues to undergo a "regimen of treatments" after being diagnosed two months ago with what it calls a treatable form of lung cancer.
Notes
• Ted Roof has been hired as Penn State's defensive coordinator by new coach Bill O'Brien.
• Sal Sunseri, former Alabama linebackers coach, has been hired as Tennessee's defensive coordinator. He replaces Justin Wilcox, who left to become Washington's defensive coordinator.
• Other coaching hires include offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury and defensive coordinator Mark Snyder at Texas A&M, and defensive coordinator Dave Campo at Kansas.
• Players who announced they are returning to college rather than entering the NFL draft include Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson, Oregon running back Kenjon Barner, Arkansas quarterback Tyler Wilson and Georgia linebacker Jarvis Jones.
