CALGARY, Alberta — Jarome Iginla scored the shootout winner and the Calgary Flames earned an important two points with a 3-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night.

The shootout was tied through two rounds, with Olli Jokinen scoring for Calgary and Alex Burrows replying for Vancouver, which set the stage for Iginla — the Flames' captain and all-time leading scorer.

Iginla put the Flames ahead when he faked a shot, drew the puck around goaltender Roberto Luongo and jammed it in while he was falling.

Miikka Kiprusoff then denied Vancouver's Mason Raymond with a pad stop to clinch the victory for Calgary.

It was a different move for Iginla, who chose to shoot when he got a breakaway with two minutes left in the third but was robbed by Luongo's glove save.

Calgary led 2-0 early in the second period, but Cody Hodgson of the Canucks scored his 15th goal of the season at 17:55 of the second.

Vancouver's David Booth got his ninth goal of the season at 8:04 of the third period to tie the score.

The Canucks outshot the Flames 31-18.

Northwest Division-leading Vancouver (34-15-6) has 74 points, two behind Western Conference-leading Detroit. The Canucks have six victories and two shootout losses in their last eight games.

Calgary, tied for ninth place, is trying to earn one of the West's eight playoff spots.
