Seattle police were searching for suspects in the fatal shooting of a police officer shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of 29th Avenue and East Yesler Way.
Details of the shooting were sketchy. Dozens of officers converged on the scene, and traffic was shut down. A Seattle Times photographer at the scene said the officer's body was still inside a police cruiser. Police dispatch traffic indicated that at least one person was dead at the scene and that officers throughout the city were searching for a suspect vehicle with gunshot damage.
A supervisor at police dispatch said dozens of officers were fanning out from the scene looking for the suspect vehicle, which was described as a white or grey Toyota.
Fire department aid trucks were first dispatched to the scene around 10:10 p.m. The call was dispatched as a "Med7," a serious call that sends a minimum of seven medical personnel were sent to respond.
