MLB | Ex-Huskies pitcher Tim Lincecum makes deal with prosecutors

Clark County prosecutors reached an agreement with pitcher Tim Lincecum of the San Francisco Giants that will result in a civil infraction for possession of a marijuana pipe.

Ex-Washington Huskies standout Lincecum, 25, has agreed to pay a $250 fine for possession of drug paraphernalia. The 2008 National League Cy Young Award winner was allegedly found with marijuana during a freeway-traffic stop in Hazel Dell.

The deal is standard practice for a first-time marijuana offender who cooperates with police, said Grant Hansen, Clark County deputy prosecutor.

A judge has to approve the agreement, Hansen said. If the judge doesn't sign off on the deal, Hansen said, "then we're back at the start."

Police said Lincecum, a two-time All-Star, was stopped on suspicion of speeding Oct. 30 in Hazel Dell while northbound on Interstate 5.

A Washington State Patrol motorcycle trooper reported Lincecum was doing 74 mph in a 60 mph zone. When Lincecum rolled down his window, the trooper said he noticed a marijuana smell. Lincecum handed the trooper a pipe and a pouch with 3.3 grams of marijuana, police said.

Lincecum also faces a $122 fine for the speeding charge.

Hansen said Lincecum's attorney "came to our office Monday" for negotiations.

"We dismissed possession of marijuana and amended the other charge to buying or selling drug paraphernalia, a Class A civil infraction. It could have been the kid next door" getting the same treatment, Hansen said. "The fact it's a celebrity doesn't mean he doesn't get the same deal."
