Unable to find the range at the service line, the fourth-ranked Washington volleyball team fell 3-1 to Washington State on Friday at Bohler Gym, the Huskies' first loss to the Cougars since 2002.

PULLMAN — Unable to find the range at the service line, the fourth-ranked Washington volleyball team fell 3-1 to Washington State on Friday at Bohler Gym, the Huskies' first loss to the Cougars since 2002.

A season-high 18 service aces accounted for nearly a fifth of WSU's total points, as the Cougars (16-4, 5-4 Pac-10) overcame a first-set loss to win 18-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-22. It was the first time all season the Huskies (17-2, 7-2) lost three straight sets.

Washington, which led by at least three points in each of the final three sets, got 15 kills from Bianca Rowland. Meagan Ganzer led the Cougars with 15 kills, with Brittany Tillman supplying 10 kills and a team-high five blocks.

Men's soccer

Seattle University (2-9-1, 1-2 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) battled through rainy and windy conditions on an unfamiliar field, but Sacramento State eked out a 1-0 victory at the Starfire Soccer Complex. The match was moved from Championship Field, deemed unplayable after overnight rain.

Kellan Brown's team-leading seventh goal of the season was the only bright point for visiting Western Washington (5-10-0) as it fell 6-1 to No. 10 Cal State L.A. in a nonconference match.

Women's soccer

McKenna Waitley scored in the 24th minute to lead host Washington (10-2-3, 2-0-2) to a 1-0 victory over No. 23 California. Kari Davidson made two saves in goal to pick up the shutout.

Kelley O'Hara's goal in overtime provided top-ranked Stanford a 2-1 victory over No. 20 Washington State in Pullman. Elysse Van Leer scored in the 54th minute for the Cougars (10-4-1, 2-1-1 Pac-10).

Emily Hutchins, Catherine Cullen and Jessie Sorenson each scored for Gonzaga (7-9, 1-3 West Coast) in a 3-1 victory over the University of San Francisco in Spokane.

Other volleyball

Ashley Hamilton had 12 kills on 12 attacks, setting Eastern Washington and Big Sky records for hitting percentage as the Eagles (13-7, 7-2) beat Weber State 25-17, 25-17, 25-7 in Cheney.
