Denise Dy becomes first UW woman to win ITA regional tennis title

STANFORD, Calif. — Washington sophomore Denise Dy completed her historic run to capture the singles title at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships Monday at Stanford's Taube Tennis Center.
Dy upset top-seeded California All-American Jana Juricova, 6-3, 6-3.
Dy is the first UW woman ever to win the regional crown and she qualified for the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships Nov. 5-8 in New Haven, Conn.
Golf
The third-ranked Huskies men's golf team shot seven strokes better as a team in the second round of the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational in Windermere, Fla., but is 14th out of 15 schools. Washington shot a 13-over-par 301 and is 33 over par.
• The UW women are fifth at 1-under 287 after the first round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Shootout, and junior Anya Alvarez is fourth in the individual standings after shooting a 3-under-par 69.
• Western Washington is fifth at 323, 16 strokes behind leader California Baptist at the Cal State Monterey Bay Invitational.

• The Seattle University volleyball team recovered from a tough third set for a 3-2 victory (24-26, 25-22, 12-25, 25-22, 15-13) over host Montana State.
• Jocelyn Charette of Seattle Pacific won the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week award for women's soccer.
• Northwest University goalkeeper Brian Swanson was named Cascade Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
