Northwest: Spokane to host 2011 women's basketball regional
Spokane will be the first city to host the opening two rounds and a regional of the NCAA women's basketball tournament in the same year.

The Lilac City was one of 16 cities named Thursday to host the first two rounds in 2011. Gonzaga will host the first two rounds in its on-campus arena, and the regional will be hosted by Washington State at the Spokane Arena.
Dayton, Philadelphia and Dallas will also host regionals in 2011. Dayton is also a regional site this year.
Joining Gonzaga as host schools for the first two rounds are Auburn, Baylor, Connecticut, Duke, Louisiana Tech, Maryland, New Mexico, Ohio State, Penn State, Stanford, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, Wichita State and Xavier.

Kellan Brown scored twice, powering Western Washington to a 4-0 men's shutout of Seattle Pacific at Interbay Stadium on Thursday night. The loss ended the Great Northwest Athletic Conference title hopes of the Falcons (10-5-3, 3-3-1) and clinched the crown for Saint Martin's (10-6, 5-1).
Brown blasted in the rebound of a deflected shot only 6 ½ minutes into the match, and put in the rebound of his own saved penalty kick early in the second half. Oscar Jimenez and Gibson Bardsley also scored for Western (6-11, 3-3).
• Pepperdine outshot Seattle University 14-4 and beat the Redhawks 1-0 in a nonleague women's match in Malibu, Calif. Goalkeeper Madison Goverde of the Redhawks (7-10-1) made six saves. Pepperdine (9-7-1) scored in the 63rd minute on a chip over Goverde's head.
Volleyball
Seattle Pacific lost 25-17, 25-22, 18-25, 25-16 at Montana State Billings despite 11 kills from Paige Hoffman and 10 from Jessica Bettencourt. The Falcons (14-9, 8-3) remained in second place in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
