UW women's cross-country team earns repeat Pac-10 crown
Washington's top-ranked women's cross-country team captured the Pac-10 championship for the second year in a row, while the 13th-ranked men's squad placed fourth in Long Beach, Calif.

The Huskies women were even with the eighth-ranked Oregon Ducks with 400 meters to go but poured it on down the homestretch to win with 35 points to Oregon's 42. The Huskies have now won back-to-back titles for the first time in program history and ran their undefeated streak to 10 races.
Sophomore Kendra Schaaf, the defending Pac-10 individual champion, went out fast and led for much of the race before suffering a slight knee twinge and dropping to fifth. But Schaaf surged back to finish second in 19 minutes, 46 seconds. Oregon's Nicole Blood won her first Pac-10 title in 19:41.
Earning top-five finishes for the second straight year were junior Mel Lawrence (fourth, 19:49) and sophomore Christine Babcock (fifth, 19:58). Senior Katie Follett, battling illness, was eighth and junior Kailey Campbell's 16th-place finish capped UW's scoring.
The UW men were led by Kelly Spady, who had a career-high 10th-place finish, covering the 8,000 meters in 23:25. Colton Tully-Doyle also had his best Pac-10 run, placing 23rd in 23:50.
Top-ranked Stanford won with 28 points. The No. 2 Ducks were second with 45. The Huskies were fourth with 119. Washington State was sixth with 163.
Women's volleyball
Washington lost the first set for the first time all year but stormed back to beat Arizona 18-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-19 in Tucson. The Huskies (18-2, 8-2 Pac-10) snapped a two-match road skid. Kindra Carlson had 18 kills for UW. Jill Collymore had 14 kills, 13 digs, four blocks and an ace.
• Arizona State stopped an eight-match losing streak with a 25-22, 25-18, 15-25, 25-22 upset of No. 21 Washington State in Tempe. Meagan Ganzer led WSU (16-5, 5-5) with 14 kills.
Men's soccer
Brad Keller scored in the 11th minute for host Washington, California got the equalizer in the 34th minute and the Pac-10 game finished in a 1-1 tie. The Huskies are 4-5-5, 1-1-4.

Washington scored three unanswered goals in the second half to beat Oregon 3-1 in Eugene, giving coach Lesle Gallimore her 200th career victory. Junior McKenna Waitley had a goal and an assist and senior Alex Kirk scored the game-winner as the Huskies improved to 11-3-3, 3-1-2 Pac-10.
Men's basketball
Guard Derrick Webb, who missed all of last season because of a broken wrist, scored a game-high 23 points as Western Washington defeated Grand Canyon 94-70 in first-day action at the Disney Tip-Off Classic in Anaheim, Calif. It was the season opener for both teams.
Women's rowing
Washington State defeated Gonzaga in the Head of the Snake Regatta, with all four Cougars varsity boats finishing ahead of the Bulldogs.
