Everett scored two third-period goals in a 3-1 victory at Medicine Hat in a Western Hockey League game Tuesday night.

After a scoreless second period, Byron Froese gave Everett a 2-1 lead at 2:20 of the third period on an assist from Kellan Tochkin. Scott MacDonald gave the Silvertips a two-goal advantage at 15:17 to put away the Tigers and win their fourth straight game.

Everett's Thomas Heemskerk stopped 25 of 26 shots.

The Silvertips (10-4-0-0) continue their seven-game trip tonight with a 6 p.m. start against the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

Golf

The Pacific Northwest Golf Association has announced its Player of the Year recipients.

The 2009 winners include UW's Nick Taylor, the top-ranked amateur in the world, of Abbottsford, B.C., who received the men's award; Sue Kim of Langley, B.C., women; Patrick O'Donnell of Clackamas, Ore., senior men; Jackie Little of Port Alberni, B.C., senior women; Zach Wanderscheid of Goldendale, Wash., junior boys; and Erynne Lee of Silverdale, junior girls.

• The Washington women's golf team rebounded from Monday's tough first round of the Turtle Bay Collegiate Invitational in Kahuku, Hawaii, and moved up four spots to 13th in the team standings. Washington shot a combined 12-over 300 in the second round, 12 strokes better than Monday's first round.

• The Washington State women shot their lowest round of the season at the Challenge at Onion Creek in Austin, Texas. In a strong field with six nationally-ranked teams, the Cougars finished in 16th with a 42-over-par 882. The second-round score of 282 was the Cougars' lowest round of the season.

Freshman Ali Thompson (70-69-75 — 214) had the two lowest rounds of the seasons for the team. She finished the tournament in a tie for 15th.

• Seattle University was unable to overcome UC Irvine's offense in a 25-19, 25-22, 25-21 nonconference volleyball loss.

Maggie McCarthy scored 18 to lead Seattle University to a 75-54 women's basketball exhibition victory over Northwest University. Emily Drivstuen led NU with 15 points.

• Seven Central Washington football players were named to the GNAC academic all-conference team — Adam Bighill, Johnny Spevak, Zach Hekker, Andy Roof, Garrett Rolsma, Buddy Wood and Mike Reno.

Julie Piper scored 23 as the Eastern Washington women crushed Central Washington 101-49 in an exhibition basketball game.

• Washington's Taylor Mueller of Eastlake was named the Pac-10 men's soccer Player of the Week.
