Soccer: Seattle Pacific women rally for overtime victory

Jocelyn Charette scored the game-winning goal eight minutes into overtime Thursday, capping the 17th-ranked Seattle Pacific women's comeback from a two-goal halftime deficit to a 3-2 soccer win at Yellowjacket Field.

BILLINGS, Mont. — Jocelyn Charette scored the game-winning goal eight minutes into overtime Thursday, capping the 17th-ranked Seattle Pacific women's comeback from a two-goal halftime deficit to a 3-2 soccer win at Yellowjacket Field.

Charette's golden goal, at 98:10, was her Great Northwest Athletic Conference-leading 12th score of the season.

Andrea Chan forced the overtime, heading in a corner kick from Charette at 76:09 for her first collegiate goal. Megan Lindsay started the SPU rally with an unassisted goal at 61:22. It was her fifth goal of the season.

The come-from-behind victory stopped the first three-game winless streak in seven years for the Falcons (15-3-1, 8-2-1 GNAC).

Tennis

Two Washington women picked up opening-round victories at the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in West Haven, Conn. Denise Dy, seeded seventh, defeated Florida State's Noemie Scharle 6-3, 6-3; and No. 8 seed Venise Chan topped Yale's Stephanie Kent 6-2, 1-6, 6-4.

Volleyball

Marlayna Geary posted her 11th double-double of the season with 20 kills and 13 digs as Western Washington (16-9, 9-5 GNAC) defeated Northwest Nazarene 25-13, 22-25, 25-15, 25-22 in Nampa, Idaho.

• A power outage late in Game 1 forced the eventual postponement of the Seattle Pacific-Central Washington match at Brougham Pavilion. The match is scheduled to resume from the point of interruption at 7 p.m. Monday at Brougham, with the same lineups on the floor and the score tied at 24-24.

Other soccer

The Seattle University men (3-11-1, 2-4 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) dropped a 4-0 decision to host Denver University.

• The Western Washington men (8-11-1, 5-3 GNAC) wrapped up their season with a 2-0 victory over Saint Martin's in Ellensburg, finishing the campaign on a season-best four-game unbeaten streak (3-0-1).

• The Western Washington women (10-4-4, 7-1-3, GNAC) tied Northwest Nazarene 1-1 in Bellingham, extending their unbeaten streak to six games.
