Pix From My Weekend
Spotlight on nature
Seattle Times reader Bill Butler's photo of an autumn hillside near his home.
Photographer: Bill Butler, Snohomish
Photo taken: Oct. 27, from my yard off Highway 522
Photographer's description: "I was working in the house when I saw the light spotlighting the trees on Lord Hill. I had to capture an image of nature at her best." The camera: a Nikon D200 with Nikon 80-to-400 lens.
Expert says: "In this photo the bright yellow autumn leaves are a stark contrast to the dark, blue sky beyond. Color is the most powerful element here, but light helps add depth and drama to the image as well. Overall, the simplicity and beauty of this picture creates a dreamlike effect for viewers."
