Concert previews: a little keyboard music — for guitar, and two programs from the Seattle Percussion Collective
Peruvian guitarist Jorge Caballero brings his transcriptions of keyboard works by Bach and Berg to Seattle on Saturday, and Seattle Percussion Collective presents two different programs on two nights.

The Seattle Classic Guitar Society's 2010-11 International Concert Series kicks off Saturday with a recital by Peruvian guitarist Jorge Caballero (above), whose musical bent is to transcribe unlikely source material — Dvorak's Symphony No. 9, for instance — into guitar settings.
On the program are three "keyboard" works: Bach's Prelude and Fugue BWV 849 (from "The Well-Tempered Clavier") and Chromatic Fantasy and Fugue, BWV 903, and Alban Berg's Piano Sonata, Op. 1. Guitar pieces by Latin American composers Ernesto García de León and Jorge Morel round out the evening.
SCGS's 2010-11 season continues with Seattle's Michael Nicolella (Dec. 4), Duo Melis (March 12) and Marcin Dylla (May 7). All concerts are at 7:30 p.m., Nordstrom Recital Hall, Benaroya Hall, 200 University St., Seattle; $24-$30 single tickets, $80-$95 for full series (206-297-8788 or www.seattleguitar.org).

Seattle Percussion Collective
Percussion music fans have another treat in store, following Pacific Rims' superhuman percussion-fest at Cornish College of the Arts two weeks ago.
This weekend Seattle Percussion Collective offers two completely different shows. The first is an all-John Cage program, focusing on his later work, including a local premiere of "51'15.657" for speaking percussionist. 8 p.m. Friday, Gallery 1412, 1412 18th Ave., Seattle; $5-$15 suggested donation.
Saturday brings works for percussion and other instruments, with guest artists Tiffany Lin (piano), Tom Baker (guitar), Sarah Bassingthwaighte (flute) and Jesse Canterbury and Jenny Ziefel (clarinets). The program features a world premiere by local composer Greg Sinibaldi, along with pieces from SPC member Dale Speicher's "Wake." Also, Peter Garland's "Three Songs for Mad Coyote," Frederic Rzewski's "96," Christian Wolff's "Exercise 26 and 27" and Vinko Globokar, "?Corporel" (a highly theatrical "percussion solo for the human body").
8 p.m. Saturday, Chapel Performance Space, Good Shepherd Center, 4649 Sunnyside Ave. N., Seattle; $5-$15 suggested donation.
SPC also has a lively new CD out, featuring works by Baker, Cage, Speicher, Wolff and a dreamy vibraphone item, "Deceived by Starlight," by Roger Zahab. Info: 206-948-0815 or www.seattlepercussioncollective.com.
